Is Dance Film Genuine Film?
Panel discussion focused on the fusion of dance and film. Does dance have a significant role to a filmmaker, fincancier, distributor and an audience? Is dance film as a separate term confusing and is it necessary to distinguish dance film as an artform of its own? Does the term of dance film possibly even label the artfrom in a disadvantaged way regarding production, funding and distribution? The panel discussion is held in English.

Loikka on Tour is heading to Festival Nordique, a contemporary dance film festival dedicated to Nordic dance, held in Paris on January 16-27, 2018. Festival Nordique will be screening Finnish dance films of a length of one minute.

Loikka brings Latin dance films to Cinemaissí. Approximate hour-long screening consists of dance films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa-Rica and Mexico. Most of the films are seen for the first time in Finland.
 
Women filmmakers are highly present in dance films. Art form is a combination of two other art forms - dance and film and as in dance women are majority as makers they are also well presented as dance filmmakers. In dance film, it is common that the choreographer is co-director or even doing both roles. Many times dance film is a result of great collaboration between film and dance makers. 
 
Latin dance film is bodily rich, emotionally expressive and full of dancing. The screening shows diversity of the art form presented by Lain American dancers in nine shot films.
 
Kati Kallio, artistic director of Loikka dance film festival will present the screening. The screening is curated in collaboration with Bestias Danzantes Festival de Cine de Danzan (Chile).

60secondsdance is an online competition for one minute dance films. The competition, organised for the second time in April 2016, awarded monetary prizes to films in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The Finnish partner in the international competition, Loikka Festival, presents the Top 40 films of the 2016 competition at Art Goes Kapakka - a series of events that brings various forms of the performing arts to bars and pubs in Helsinki.

Conversation is in Finnish.Dance and film are both art forms that generate strong emotions in audience. In the late screening consist few short films, which in substance are not suitable for the young and sensitive people. ​
