Loikka Dance Film Festival
Loikka celebrates its 10th anniversary in Helsinki from 5 to 8 April 2018. During its 10-year-old history Loikka has actively promoted dance film and worked towards improving the production of the art form. This has led to a strong increase in the number of dance filmmakers in Finland. Finnish dance films have won several awards and they are screened to audiences at film festivals worldwide.
In addition to the traditional dance film programme, for the first time Loikka will present an extensive selection of virtual reality works curated for a wide audience. Loikka will also arrange an international Future Screens of Dance conference on 5 to 7 April. The conference will focus on the future of dance film and the roles of art and artists in the production of virtual reality. The conference gathers filmmakers, artists and representatives of new technologies to discuss the collaborative possibilities of dance, film and technology from different perspectives.

Become a Volunteer at Loikka!Do you want to take part in creating the 10th Loikka Dance Film Festival? Join our team and become a volunteer!
Loikka is looking for enthusiastic volunteers for versatile tasks in festival production, such as delivering posters, upholding ticket sales and info desk and assisting with multiple tasks in film screenings and the international conference.
This year we are also looking for volunteers to assist with realising the VR programme at Annantalo. As a volunteer you get to work with experts in the field of VR and learn about the different forms and execution of VR experiences. We are looking for volunteers for technical tasks and to uphold the virtual reality works and guide the audience. All the volunteers will be trained for the assignment on April 4th. We require the volunteers to engage for the assignment at least for two days. The volunteers are needed from 3rd to 9th of April, for building and taking down the VR sets as well as assisting with practical tasks during the festival.
As a volunteer at Loikka you get to learn a lot and work in an inspiring atmosphere. In addition to this you are welcome to experience the festival programme and you will receive a letter of reference. Interested? Send an email to our producer [email protected]. Tell a bit about your background, previous experience at festivals and of which tasks you are interested in at Loikka. Please let us also know when you are available to volunteer during the festival dates 5 to 8 April or as a VR volunteer 3 to 9 April. Delivering posters will take place already on weeks 12 and 13.

Loikka Kontakti ry
Loikka Kontakti ry (former M.A.D. Tanssimaisterit ry) is the leading representative of dance film in Finland. The association has been active in promoting dance film since 1995 as well as arranging the annual Loikka Dance Film Festival since 2008. Loikka Kontakti’s main mission is to present and distribute and also further the production of Finnish dance films. An essential part of this is enabling versatile collaborations between fragmented agents in the field of dance and film nationwide. The association’s domestic partners consist of, for example, regional dance and film centers, art house cinemas, film and dance film festivals, schools providing education in the field of art, art universities and Dance House Helsinki.
Loikka Kontakti’s vision is to establish Finland as the forerunner and internationally significant producer of dance film. Loikka production project, mentoring programme and LoikkaPro training have contributed fast development in the field, including growth in filmmaking and wide distribution of Finnish films all over the world.
The association’s values are openness, trustworthiness, sense of community, resilience and the courage and joy of working. Working in collaboration and embracing mutual respect with our partners and audience is very important to us. Our values come across in the versatile set of events aimed at a wide audience and created together with a broad number of people working in the field of art. The Helsinki-based Loikka Dance Film Festival has a diverse audience, and along with the Loikka on Tour distribution the association reaches viewers nationwide. In addition to distributing films internationally, Loikka Kontakti is currently developing a new method for domestic distribution of short films.
Loikka Kontakti’s members consists of professionals working in the field of dance and film to whom the association offers a variety of advantages to, for example Loikka Dance Film Festival. Members will also become part of the constantly growing domestic and international network of dance film in which Loikka Kontakti has been functioning for almost a decade.
