The screening is a selection of technically and visually exceptional short films. Three of the films are high-class 4K resolution. The ending film Womb includes 3D elements but would easily make your head spin regardless of them.
The Wunderers speaks up about our society in which the everyday life and norms limit individuals. A woman struggles with the pressure of expectations but finds the courage to change things. The discouraged woman escapes a distressing moment of having a cup of tea to a dark-shaded dance that releases the repressed scream.
Competing for Sunlight: Oak glows the serenity of nature but at the same time passes on a feeling of something inescapable and uncomfortable. It’s as if the oak is telling a story to a man about an emotional dance to distract his thoughts or to ask for help. The soundscape of the film takes the viewer in the middle of nature where the leaves rustle in the wind and the ants bustle on the ground.
Intense Sonder takes the viewer to a majestic scene of a quarry. Between the five dancers there is a powerful tension that changes its form when the dance goes on. It seems that every dancer first tries to help each other and at the next moment stop anyone to leave the quarry. The absence of music makes the intensive dance even more powerful: the sound design is a combination of crunching rocks and eager breathing.
Psychedelic Womb is a celebration of shapes, colours and textures. In six different scenes the dancers move smoothly via bizarre rooms to a space where gravity disappears. Slow tempo of movement and music makes the viewer wait impatiently what happens next. The film plays with visual irritants persuading the eye to search for tiny details in every picture.
