Näytös kokoaa yhteen kantaaottavia ja poliittisiakin tanssielokuvia, joissa liike syntyy keskellä yhteiskunnallisia murroshetkiä ja -paikkoja.
Disruptionissa taustaksi tarkoitettu Israelin ja Palestiinan välinen muuri kohoaa dokumentaarisen luonteen saavan elokuvan keskukseksi. Tarjoaako kaksi kansallisuutta erottava muuri suojaa vai provosoiko se mahdollisiin konflikteihin? Ilmaisunvapauden merkitys on keskiössä teoksissa One Million Step ja You Can Take the Street and Rule Them Because We Are of the Sky. Niistä ensimmäisessä taiteilija muuntaa steppitanssinsa solidaarisuuden puolustuspuheeksi keskellä Istanbulin 2103 mielenosoituksia ja jälkimmäisessä tanssijat vastaavat kanadalaisen anarkistin Emma Goldmanin vuoden 1931 lausuntoon “Jos en saa tanssia, en halua olla osa teidän vallankumoustanne”. Näytöksen päätöksenä nähdään yhteisötaideprojektin kautta syntynyt saksalais-vietnamilainen Rhizophora. Elokuvan tähtinä loistavat Agent Orange -kasvimyrkylle sikiövaiheessa altistuneet kehitysvammaiset nuoret aikuiset. The screening brings together dance films that take a stand, political or otherwise. We see dancers create movement in times and places when and where suddent social change is taking place.
Disruption is a film of a documentary nature set against the backdrop of the wall between Israel and Palestian land. The wall, however, ends up taking centre stage. Does the barrier separating the two ethnic groups offer protection, or does it provoke further conflict? One Million Step and You Can Take the Street and Rule Them Because We Are of the Sky focus on the importance of freedom of expression. The first of the two shows an artist turn his tap dance performance amidst the 2013 Istanbul protests into a plea for solidarity, while in the latter, dancers do their take on a Canadian anarchist Emma Goldman's quote “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution” from 1931. The closing film Rhizophora is a German-Vietnamese collaboration created as part of a community art project. The film stars a group of young adults suffering from disabilities caused by genetic mutation from the chemicals in Agent Orange, a herbicide sprayed during the Vietnam War in the 1960s to clear away jungle areas and vegetation.
